I notice that there is a member on here with the same Surname in their tree-it is an unusual name, and I had contacted them-no response-it is very possible that they joined a few years ago-found no-one with a link, looked up a few IGI references and gave up after getting no further........on the other hand I have joined later and found someone who has recorded all the names born over 300 years in this area, she is a real pro,and she has sent me 140 christenings(Ihad most of them already, but they have been presented in a file that is very ordered and complete).......included in these files are all the people she would be related to..........so my tip is..........be patient, and also dont rely on making a connection immediately or on here.........go out and find them.........I found mine by emailing a researcher from the guild of one name studies.........and now I can trace my ancestry on one line to 11 generations.........be lucky |

I'd second that! I joined last August - and immediately found two people who had BOTH my 2xgt grandparents lines. One responded immediately to confirm the connection, but hasn't kept up contact, and I've had absolutely NO information from him. The other didn't respond for several months, and I was beginning to lose hope of ever finding out who she was. Eventually I had an email apologising for the delay - she had been out of the country - but I've had a lot of help from her, and she has put me in touch with a cousin of my father's who I never knew existed. With a few nudges from her I'm now back to 1650 on one of these lines. I've also contacted another distant cousin through a one-name society, but it took quite a lot of work on my part to get back far enough (common ancestor born in 1789!) to prove it. But through this link I've got back another 2 generations. |

I've been researching for 3 years using the internet and hardly had anyone contact me - when they have its always been a distant distant connection. BUT this year I've done really well - I contacted someone on Curious Fox recently who actually lives in a house where one of my relatives killed someone. And I got back from the Norwich meet to find another GR member had a photo of a gravestone of one of my relatives which he kindly e-mailed! You never know when your breakthrough will come. nell Mind you, I am notoriously impatient - my brother once sent me a cartoon of two vultures in a tree, one of them saying to the other 'patience be damned! I'm going to kill something'. nell |
