I feel a bit cheeky asking this, but would some of you kind people offer a second pair of eyes to try and find my grandfathers family on the bmd indexes? I keep drawing a blank. See below for full details of what I know Thanks in advance

From the 1901 census I have the following information: Robert E Dodds, born Stamfordham, c. 1884 Joseph Ellison Dodds, born Stamfordham c.1886 – aged 14 – agricultural laboourer John William Dodds, born stamfordham, c. 1893 Henry C Dodds, born Stamforham, c. 1895 (should be Henry E from family memory) Jane Elizabeth Dodds, born Stamfordham, 1899 Father Thomas Dodds, born Ponteland, c. 1846 Mother Mary Ann born Sunnyside c. 1859 Robert, Joseph and Henry all had the middle name of Ellison, so could this be the mother’s maiden name? Henry’s son believes that this was the case. Henry married Maria Robson in 1920 in Newcastle. There is no trace of this family on the 1891 census, but the 1881 census suggests that Thomas was born in Ponteland in 1843 I don’t know where Sunnyside is, but I do know that both Ponteland and Stamfordham are in the Castle Ward in Northumberland. The family lived in Ingoe, again in Castle Ward, about 3 miles from Stamfordham

Thanks Kath I'm not from the area, but have been up there as a child. So only some place names make sense.

If Mary Ann's maiden name WAS Ellison, then there are these two births at about the right time:- Mary Ann Ellison June qtr. 1858, Hexham, 10b, 216 Mary Ann Ellison June qtr. 1859, Tynemouth, 10b, 181 I would think the Hexham one would be more likely. It would be best to try and find Mary Ann's marriage to Thomas Dodds first though to be sure of her maiden name. Kath. x

This would seem to be Jane Elizabeth's birth:- Jane Elizabeth Dodd's June qtr. 1898, Castle W., 10b, 190 The birth certificate will give you Mary Ann's maiden name. Kath. x

Kath That's further than I had managed to get. I'll be sending for that birth certificate, now you've been kind enough to find it in the indexes for me. Barbara

Hi Hilary Thanks for the information. Two parishes of the same name, not very far apart! So now I need to make sure I find the right Sunnyside. Barbara
