The web searches - do they only find possible connections or also records for the person you are doing the search for?? Can't seem to find the answer in the FTM help / tutorial bit. Also, how can you specify what it should search for? I have seen that you are doing specific searches but I can't see how to do it - only got it yesterday so completely newbie on this! And one more thing - The FTM screen is to big for my screen so the sources that it searches etc - the box only shows me the first 2 letters so I don't know what it says and I can't make the other columns smaller to fit it on - any suggestions?? Thanks. |

Oh dear, no idea how the ftm screen could be too big - I mean, it should fit any size screen so you can see it, no matter how small. The searches are for census, parish/Pallots and anything else available on your normal ancestry site. You can specify by going to the top right hand of the page and editing the criteria in the little boxes there. |

Hi Heather Sorry to be thick but ... the searches - do they also find info on the person you are doing the search on??? EG - If I have a Fanny Webster and do a search, will it just find possible relations or also any records for her aswell?? As for the sources, I guess that's why I can't do it then - cos thats the box I can't see!! Grrrr. Will have to see if it makes a difference if I change my settings so my icons are smaller or some such. Thanks. |

You would get same results as if you were searching through ancestry - e.g. any records, census, deaths, marriages and so on that contained her name. |

How do I get it to search only UK BMD??? When I click on BMD, it's only for USA. I figured it would just use my Ancestry subscription and search everything that I have access to? Am I being really thick here or what? Sorry to be a pain!! At the moment, this is just winding me up rather than helping me! |

Fonts are not displayed clearly on the screen. Make sure Family Tree Maker is maximized. Click the Title Bar with the right mouse button and select Maximize. Try changing the font used on the Family View page. Open Family Tree Maker. From the Help menu, select System Information. Click the Run drop down list. Select FTW.INI. This will open the FTW.INI file with the Windows Notepad program. Delete the semicolon in front of the line that reads: FamPagFont=Arial. This will change the Family View font to Arial. From the File menu in Notepad, select Save. You need to restart Family Tree Maker for the settings to take affect. Note: The Family View Font can be changed to other Windows fonts by replacing Arial with the name of another Windows font installed on your system. dont know whether this will help or not |

Andrea thats how I felt at first but you will get to like it I promise. If you keep scrolling down you should get UK records as well , although I believe there is a way to just view UK but not sure how |

Andrea, On the 'individual view' make sure you've England (or Wales/Scotland/Ireland etc)after your place name if you have one, or at least a county in the birthplace box. Then you shouldn't get so many US ones come up - just those that were born in the UK & went there later. In 'search criteria' you can 'customise' to search only certain records - so if you're just looking for BMD you can click that. Or you can just look for a certain census. It really is dead handy, I've used it LOADS since Heather's thread about it! Good luck with getting your window the right size! Sarah :-) |

Valerie Thanks but I can't find the 'system info' thing to click on!!! I think I must be having a stupid day today! I'm going to go back and have another look and see if I can sort it out. I am obviously missing something. I've had a break for an hour or so now so I am hoping fresh eyes will do the trick! Thanks everyone. Will let you know how I get on - or how much I am selling it for if I don't suss it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
