I am trying to find what has happened to Samuel Hickton b 1827, his wife Emma b abt 1833, their daughter Caroline b 1859 and Emma's daughter Mary Ann King b 1857, all in Warwick England. One possibility is that they emigrated. They do not appear to have come downunder, so North America has to be a possibility. I cannot find them in 1880/81. I don't think they appear as Hickton on the 1870 census but have not been able to check for mistranscriptions. Any sign of them in the States? Thanks Christine in NZ

Thanks Karen, I have seen both of those and ordered certificates, but as I cant find either of mine after the 1861 census, I don't hold out much hope. There was a Caroline Hicken on the 1871 b Birmingham at about the same time as my Caroline so I suspect that there is probably a mis transcription there and the death is probably her. There were a number of Samuel Hicktons about the same age and I suspect that death is more likely to be one of them. My gut feeling is that the family moved after 1861. There is no evidence of them at all in NZ or Australia, and I am wondering if North America was a likely destination if the family emigrated. Christine in NZ
