Sorry missed your reply Georgina have sent a pm. My Mum always insisted he came from Liverpool but of Irish stock. Now whether the family came over from Ireland I don't know but from what little she knew I always undertstood that he was born in Liverpool. Germaine x |

Germaine have you thought that maybe your Grandfather was from Ireland or Scotland and may not be on any of the Census's? Or do you know from family history that he was born in England? Georgina. |

No sign of the biths of the 2 youngest children and only maybe on the 2 eldest. I sent for the only birth cert of a William in the right area right date, turned out not to be him If I had searched a bit more I would have found this William had died a little boy. Saved myself £7 lol. No wonder I was told this man was a mystery. I am sure they are hiding somewhere!!!! Germaine x |

Hi Germaine I think you need to try to find your grandfather's birth certificate to determine his father and will also give you mother's name to try to find them on the census. Emma |

Wonder if any of you have come across anything like this. Will try not to make it too long. Am going to bed soon so will look at your thoughts in the morning I am not being rude. Will put as much info as I can. I have found a family now some of the info on the 1881 census fits what I know about my grandfather his name and age, but the father’s name is wrong James (on his marriage cert, he has named him as Patrick). Father’s occupation a cabinet maker on census joiner. Perhaps he was James Patrick etc. After 1881 the family just disappear till my Grandad turns up here in Fleetwood and marries in 1908. I was always told he came from Liverpool and the age of him is right with his marriage and death certs. Now what puzzles me is that in 1891 what looks like could be the father turns up in a street not far away living with a new wife ( quite a bit younger than him). Him 40 she 24. Also the house from 1881 is empty in 1891 it is still empty on the 1901. Not a street with many empty houses, just this one. My grandparents had two sons William J and James no James in Granny’s side. When I think about it I don’t remember my Mum talking about her Dad’s parents but did mention his sisters. Though I don’t remember their names I did have an Aunty Margaret and again no Margaret on Granny’s side. Would you think in those days that perhaps the mother died and he went off with this young girl who didn’t want the children, could the children have managed on their own in the house. Perhaps hiding from the enumerator in 91 and then in 1901 again. The only one in 1891 that could fit is the eldest sister a servant not too far away from the house of 1881. Do you think this why I can find no trace of them, they were hiding? From the way my Mum spoke they were certainly in Liverpool older than the ages on the 1881 census, so where on earth were they.
