I came across the link when i was searching for my great grandads medal card and could not find it using the normal medal card search page, but i used that link and it came up with the medal card for him. I think it must be a different search engine. Roy

Hi Merry! That might explain it then ....I did wonder if I just had one of those black spots where using the NA site was concerned lol! Feel marginally more intelligent now! Mandy :))

The RN stuff hasn't been on there long, so maybe that's why you didn't find it before?? (Just trying to make you feel better!) Hope your dad enjoyed his tea! Merry

I have searched the National Archives site goodness knows how many times for anything relating to my grandfather's RN service and could never find a single thing, despite him having a fairly unusual name. I wrote off to the RN Personnel department with a cheque for £30 (which they kindly returned) but they were unable to help because grandad’s service was during WW1 and they directed me to the National Archives. I groaned and put it to one side to try again at a later date! I was just reading through Val from Kent’s thread about the National Archives website and saw Roy’s posting, which contained a different link to the search tool. I followed the link and was really pleased to find that there was a document for my granddad after all – yippee, I’d found his medal card! Paid my £3.50 straight away, downloaded the document, and it’s only his WHOLE RN SERVICE RECORD! I’m over the moon and just rang my Dad in the middle of his tea to tell him the good news. We are both so excited, and it’s all thanks to someone just taking the trouble to share a useful link. Thanks again Roy, I'm glad you can tell I'm excited lol! Mandy :) PS: This is the link: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/search/quick_search.aspx?javascriptenabled=True&searchtext=
