Searching National Archives.

Someone told me that there is a page on National Archives site for searching Military records without having to go to Kew. Can someone tell me how to get into it please,have just been on the site but cannot find it. Val |

Val You can search the Medals Index online for WW1 soldiers. I also found an ancestor by just typing his name in the search box on the homepage of TNA website, as he was a Chelsea pensioner. You can't see the records but it gave a reference so I could order a photocopy which had details about him joining, medical problems and his pension. nell |

Hi Roy I can't thank you enough. I have searched that site goodness knows how many times for anything relating to my grandfather's RN service and could never find anything, despite him having a fairly unusual name. Using your link has taken me to a different search box, and I've found his medal card. My Dad is going to be thrilled, thank you again, Mandy :) UPDATE!!! Oh goodness, even more excited now...it's not his medal card, it's his whole RN Service Record!!! Must go and post a separate thread! |
