Just found one of my rellies twice on IGI - both christenings in different districts: Thomas Peace (IGI Batch C071961) christened as Thomas Pearce on 30 Oct 1825 and then on IGI Batch C009582 he is christened as Thomas Pease on 6 Apr 1828. Why twice? Was this some kind of benefit scam?!?!

definitely, the parents are the same and the area covered is too small and the name too rare to be a coincidence.

Just wondered, could the second date be a date of death and have been entered on the IGI wrongly?

I've known this happen once before. Came to the conclusion they must have fancied a Christening in front of the Mum's family and a week later in front of Dad's family in a different Parish. Were the parents from each of the Parishes?

I am unsure where their parents were from, 3 years apart seems a bit long though?!

Just notice the three year gap! I would think the first son died and they had another son and gave him the same name. By the time they were doing the census many people had gained or lost a few years. Did he have siblings you've been able to trace?

I think Merry maybe right - the first Thomas dies and the next son born is then also called Thomas. Had this a lot in my family.

Hi I have found this too, although not on the IGI. I found it when going through baptism records at Stafford Records Office. My 2 X Gt Grandfather was baptised soon after his birth and then again 3 years later with his sisters. Definately the same bloke, but couldn't find out why:-( Bev X

Nana, That would be the 2nd Thomas dying! Andy Pandy Was James' Dad called Thomas? You usually find that when parents are keen to give a child a certain name, it is an important family name. I've had 4 Josephs in one family, very sad.

I think they're right. I had one olot of mine had three sons all called the same-they all died! I think they chose another name after the third one!

James is a brickwall of mine so don't know dad's name - highly likely it could have been Thomas though as when James remarried in 1832 he named his first son Thomas. Perhaps tragically, two Thomas's from his first marriage also died?? If only 1837 had come 10 years earlier!!

That is the parents marriage Ellen, Elizabeth died in 1832 (probably Cholera as their was an outbreak in Leeds at that time). James then remarried Caroline Newton in Sep 1832.
