Why can I not find the proper date of my G/Grandfathers death in Ancestory Ranked search results - free BMD Death Index 1837-1983. I keep getting James Quayle c1834 when his date is 1840, a big difference, but the date Qtr is correct Oct --Dec district and everything else. I do have a certificate, which showed he died in a mining accident, in Whitehaven, with the date 1st October 1890, so why do!snt it show properly in the index. I have tried other indexs with no better luck, any explanations welcome.

so , you are saying he died in 1890? yes it is the age he was when he died that you are questioning, Yes? dont forget , the person that told the registrar may have guess how old he was - he may not have known Name: James Quayle Birth Date: abt 1834 Year of Registration: 1890 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec Age at death: 56 District: Whitehaven County: Cumbria, Cumberland Volume: 10b Page: 399

It would all depend on the informant? who every reported the death may not have known his correct age, DOB Roy

I have just checked the image and it is mis-transcribed the age is i think 56 which would make his DOB c1834 SORRY THAT WAS YOUR PROBLEM??? SO HE IS NOT MIS-TRANSCRIBED. If you are sure it should be 1840 then it could be as we said above. Roy
