I have been given a £20 gift voucher for a book. I thought I would spend it on a book to help me with my tree. I don't have a clue about the wills, landowners etc. Have only used BMD's and Census to get my info from so far. Any suggestions?

Go to your nearest large library and borrow some of their books - see what is most likely to be useful.

I had a good book bought for me by my brother and I am really pleased with it. It is called Tracing your family history by Anthony Adolph (Collins publishers) ISBN 0-00-721483-9. The author is a professional genealogist, writer and broadcaster and have to say I have learnt from it. I have included the ISBN number if you pop into your library and give them this number they may be able to get a copy for you to see if it is what you are looking for. It does have a chapter about wills.

Do you have a partner with a lack of interest in Genealogy and a reading habit? If so buy as many paperbacks as possible and offer them as a gift. This then keeps them off your back while your revelling in finding more ancestors. Unfortunately my other half doesn't read so the second the decent telly runs out I'm expected to stop anoraking!
