Depending on the date, either Birkenhead or Wirral: Wirral - 1837 - 1861 Birkenhead - 1861 - 1974 Wirral - from 1974 BIRKENHEAD REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : Cheshire. Created : 1.7.1861 (formerly part of Wirral district). Sub-districts : Birkenhead; Birkenhead North; Birkenhead South; Clatterbridge; Tranmere; Wallasey. GRO volumes : 8a (1861-1946), 10A (1946-74). Registers now in Wirral district.
