Well I have to saySussex FHS is probably the best Ive ever come across - they give online settlement orders and online contact lists. I scanned through their contacts list and saw this chap on that and emailed him. Ive emailed a few others who are doing my Cheale name aswell - perhaps Ill get something back on them! (Glen, they are the mob in the Domesday book who suddenly all upped and left Lincolnshire and went en masse to Sussex - wouldnt it be great to find out why? Its been suggested that the family may have had a skill which the Normans wanted to use - possibly stone masonry? - Funnily enough when I had my clairvoyant thingy, they said that they could see my ancestors working at a cathedral building) Google, google, google eh guys. Ive thanked and grovelled to this man so much he is probably edging away from his puter as we speak. But I am so pleased - Ive rarely had anything given back to me and I wanted to make sure he knew I wasnt like most of the peeps I give generations to who often dont even say thanks.

Im so excited! Ive been adding all the details to my FTM - this guy is so thorough - he has done all the parish records and sourced everything. Glen, the weird thing is, I only brushed against this lot 2 years back and only went back to them in last few days cos of my dead ends everywhere. The guy is a male Old Crone I think, every minor detail entered - its brilliant (makes me feel quite ashamed) though he was well pleased with my stuff - not that there was much - he had been confused over that damn Saunder/Sander Verrall guy which in fact turned out to be Alexander - I could tell him that as Sander/Saunder/Alexander is my GGFx3 and I have his daughters marriage cert from 1840 - the ONLY place he gives his full name - even on his baptism he is Sander. BUT the big surprise that this lot really did have money in the late 17th century - where did it all go - well I guess having 10 kids at a time spread it out a bit. Im only about a quarter through his stuff, cant believe it. I better stop for a while and do some work as OH will be tripwiring at lunchtime and will go loopy if Im still on here (was on here at 7 a.m.) Glen, I doubt if my lot were ever serving your lot - what really worries me is if they interbred with yours! PS KAT - Yes it absolutely fell down. Shame as even the steam train was running for visitors/passengers. About 500 turned out in the whole day, which considering everyone was wading about in 6' of mud wasnt bad, was it!

Well with all my Norfolk connections i still haven't got one single ag lab (says he gloating) The nearest i have is a painter who on census night was painting a fence in a field, the rest being landowners, marines coastguards, police constable (1st class whatever that is) etc. Maybe i should take up 'positive thinking' Glen

Hi Heather What a find, lucky you. I only have wills on one side of my family and they are from way back, I think most of mine were so poor they wouldn't know what a will was! Have plenty of settlement certs etc tho'. Sorry you were unable to make it on Saturday, it was lovely to meet so many peeps from on here. Hope your stall wasn't washed out, it was a bit grim weatherwise wasn't it? Kat

Good for you Heather. They haven't been able to prove if any of your mob were servants to mine have they. What with your domesday connections and the Titanic etc,i'm still feeling a bit inferior. Glen

I am over the moon. Having abandoned my dead end Horsteads/Hansons and Dixons went back to the Verralls and Bonifaces on my dads side. I found a contact doing a one name study and he has sent me info, including wills and baptisms back to 1686 on them. Isnt that brilliant - Im so pleased.
