Good morning everyone. So many of my my rellies seem to have been christened/married etc in 'The Parish Church' wherever. Is there a site that will give names of these churches if I put in place names? Many thanks Sylvia.

Hi Sylvia Try Googling the name of the place, and you're likely to come up with a village/town site that gives the name of the church. Or try looking at the local record office site they ususally name the records they hold. Heather

Thank you Heather, I will give it a try now. It is difficult because where they lived then is now in a different county due to boundary changes. Sylvia.

You could also try googling 'Genuki' with the name of the place. Some villages have a page of information on there which will give you the name and history of the church, and also tell you where the parish records are kept.

Hi Sylvia Genuki is the best place to start looking. Villages will always have had just the one church, but in towns, new churches start springing up and the parishes getting smaller and smaller, as they are subdivided. These days, redundant churches are knocked down or put to other purposes and parishes are combined again. If the vicar signed the register, then you could find him in Crockfords, the directory for the clergy. I think that the FRC has a copy you can consult on their computers.

Many thanks everyone for your tips. I found everything I needed on GENUKI. including addresses of record offices. Now it is a case of planning journeys as I dont have a car. Fortunately the places I need are not far from where I live. Thanks again Sylvia.
