Thank you for reply Helen, problem is most of these places where they lived, in Berks and Wilts changed boundaries and seem to be now in Oxon. Do I go to old record offices or new ones? Regards Sylvia. |

If Martha is 2nd wife and had her first child 1829 then the first wife would have died and 2nd marriage taken place before civil registration. You would need to look in the parish records. Remember though that the children on a census are listed as related to the head of the household. Only the baptism record would say who the mother was. nell |

My 3xgtgrandfather born c.1822/ Farringdon Berks. Name Richard Whiteway. Christened 3/2/1822 High worth Wilts. Father : Richard Whiteway Mother: Sarah Whiteway 1841 census Richard junior away in the army. The only family I can find that fits for his father is: Richard Whiteway c1796 Farringdon Berks. However, wifes name is Martha and oldest child dob 1829. Do you think Sarah might have died and he remarried? I have found nothing on IGI except above christening. Also when Richard junior married 1846 he had 4 children But none given family names viz., Edwin James Ellen Charles Mark Sarah Julia. Do you think I can claim this family as ancestors or not? If not, where did mine go? THank you Sylvia. |
