Help please - I am trying to advise someone on how to order certs. I can send her through GRO but that take 'FOR EVER' !!! I have personally found very recently that local reg offices are much quicker but I don't know which is the one for a cert in 1840 with an Isle of Wight reference which, I think, is now classed as Hampshire.! Can anyone advise please? ALSO - Can it be done on line? Dea x

I can assure you the Northwood House, Cowes address is the right one. I received a birth certificate from them myself only yesterday.

You can order certificates online at: http://www.iwight.com/online/viewServices.aspx?srvId=14 You can obtain references from the IOW Family History site. By the way, the Island has been a separate county since 1892. Steve
