Hi. I am trying to find some streets in London, whether they still exist etc, are they close to each other? Firstly, I have a marriage certificate from 1892, the couple married at the Parish of St Mark, Old Street, London The couple lived at 67 & 68 Westmoreland Place. Secondly, the couple lived in Lucy Road, Bermondsey on the 1901 census. Is Lucy Road near to Old Street etc.? Or Westmoreland Place? Thanks for any help

Old Street is North of the river. E1 I think. Westmoreland Road and Lucy Road is South. Westmoreland Road is S.E.17 would probably come under Walworth. Lucy Road is S.E.16 they are about 2 1/2 miles 3 miles apart. Jamaica Road is one end of Lucy Road and Southwark Park Road the other. Hope this helps. Sue

I would really recommend the motco*com site. Not only does it have a fully searchable version of Stanfords 1862 map of London but other older maps too .... and a host of great images. I don't know why it doesn't get mentioned on this site.

....also the Booth online site has the colour-coded poverty maps of Charles Booth.Not only can you look up streets, but you can read a candid description of what each street was like.

.... and once you know the name of the street your ancestor lived in you can, with luck, view a picture of it on the Corporation of London's 'Collage' website. Thousands of images of London from their collection.

thanks, have managed to find what I am looking for. They are great sites especially if you have no knowledge whatsoever of LOndon (like me)

If you can't find the street in a modern A-Z {and I'd recommend you get one, there are dozens of formats in WH Smiths) you can check on this list of Victorian Streets on Gendocs: www.gendocs*demon.co.uk/ In answer to your specific query Old Street and St Lukes, Old Street are areas of London around the Barbican, north of the city. Bermondsey is south of the river and used to be part of Surrey.
