No if you send a letter to Tower Hamlets with a £7 cheque just ask for the birth certificate of who ever son of whoever whose birth was registered at Shoreditch when? They do not need reference numbers. Irene

Yes I do know his parents names but that will mean I have to apply for all three and will they charge a search fee for each?

Does it have his father's name on the marriage certificate - when you order certificate you could say son of ? and then you would not have to pay if it was the wrong request if you got it from Tower Hamlets register office. Irene

Do you know his father's and mother's names from the censuses? If so, you can use these as a checking point when ordering the cert. Liz

I am looking for a Thomas Cox my Gfather he was born in shoreditch in abt 1875 as shown on the 1881 census, abt 1877 as shown on the 1901 census. By his marraige cert his year of birth works out as 1875. By his death cert his year would have been 1876. I have found a Thomas Cox born in shoreditch in 1875, but would you believe it there are three of them same Q Jan-Feb-Mar but volume numbers 1 C 69, 1C 62, 1C 60. I know Cox is a common name is it possible they are one of the same? No wonder I left this side of the family until last!!!!! Do I have to apply for all three certs. Helpppppppppppppppp
