Hi Kath, I have tried a name search and she doesn't show up again anywhere. The Tranters were very 'local' people and it is a long way from Middlesex to Shropshire. I don't know of any family connection with Bruffen's and it may have been spelt differently Kath

I'd say she is definitely a nurse child (foster child) Maybe her parents had died or couldn't look after her. Maybe they were friends of the Tranter family. Have you checked the 1861 census to se if she is still with them? Kath. x

I am sorry too, we appear to have overlapped lol. I think I came across a bit more abruptly than I intended. No offence meant. Liz :-)

Have a look at 1851 census, James Tranter (1814) married to Ann address Dawley, Shropshire. I am puzzeled that the chiled Harriet Bruffen (1848) was all the way from Middlesex. Kath

You have had some perfectly good replies on General, so I do not understand why you have duplicated your question. Liz

I have posted this message on the 'general topics' board but might have put it in the wrong place. On the 1851 census there is a named person listed age 3 living with a relative of mine and the 'rlationship to head of house' is 'nurser'. Any ideas what this means. The wife of the house has a 1 year old child of her own. The 3 year old is from Middlesex but living in Shropshire. Thanks Kath
