i have just had a cert arrive and it had william archer born 1841 saint paul deptford but on the 1851 census it say depford st nicholas what do you think please

Might they have moved between 1841 and 1851???? Is there an address on the birth cert that you can cross reference? Suzanne

both are ecclesiatical areas of Deptford .wouldnt worry too much as census are often wrong anyway .he was born in deptford & his birth cert will show the address

If you look on a map the two churches are only 500 yards apart, so I would imagine the border between the two parishes runs along Creek Road; St Nicholas to the North and St Pauls to the south. What's the address?

John What were his parents names? Can you find them on 1841 Census and check which Parish? It's quite possible that his Mum went to a rellies to give birth and this happened to be a few streets away and came under the other Parish so that was where he had to be registered as being born.

John, In 1841 the family were living in Ritches Row, St Paul's, in 1851 Collier St. St. Nicholas, so there is your answer. It was very rare for people to stay at the same address from Census to Census, unless they were wealthy and owned their property. Jennifer
