I wonder if anyone can help. I have just discovered that my Grandmother who has always said that she was the only girl with 4 brothers in her family had an older sister. Tragically her elder sister died the year my grandmother was born 1905 and I am told by recently discovered family that she drowned. Can anyone tell me if the death certificate will tell me more and is there a possibilty there could be some sort of coroners report or something similar and where I would go to look. My Grandmother passed away 3 years ago and to know that there was an older sister has come as somewhat of a suprise. I would dearly love to find anything I can about this tragic loss. Caroline if the death was suspicious or sudden then there should be a coroners report, the death cert should give you that info. Georgina. |

I have a g g uncle who drowned in 1920 and there was an inquest held. Unfortunately very few inquest reports have survived but there was probably something in the local newspaper about it. If you order her death certificate you will be able to find out the date that the inquest has held and whether or not the verdict was 'accidental' (as in the case of my g g uncle) Tom. |

The death cert will give the cause in as much detail as they could fit in the little box. Amost certainly it will say the death was registered by the coroner after an inquest. You'll need the death cert for the exact date of death and then your best bet for a report is the local paper. They used to report inquests very fully and immediately. With a date your search shouldn't take too long. Coroner's reports are often difficult to obtain. Anne |

Caroline newspapers are usually at the main library in the area the death happened, you may get lucky and find info online, just google the district + Newspapers. Georgina. |
