I have belonged to the ones for Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, and Suffolk - nowhere near me but I have ''roots'' there. Very helpful people, and I have had family contacts within them, too. Joy

I've just had a list of local resources given me that I never even knew were there, and it's only cost £8 for a whole year, that's only a couple of bottles of plonk!!!

Hi Carol I joined my local family history society a few months ago. I was put off the idea at first because none of my family are from the place that I live (Harrogate) but it doesn't matter about that at all. As you have found out, they discuss all things relevant to family history - not just that particular town. You can always pick up useful tips from them and they usually have a good stock of library books to borrow. I too say join your local family history society. Snowdrops

I went to my first ever meating of the Cleveland family history society-it was fab. The guest speaker was an old gentleman in his 80's who had been a grocer for over 60 years. What a joy he was to to listen to! He was funny and vibrant and knowledgable and brought life away back then back to life. It was really interesting to me as my Gt Granda x3 was a grocer anda miner at the same time--the best bit was he brought alive my childhood memories of the 60's, I could almost smell the village grocers and he rminded m of all the old 'products' now long forgotten, my advice to you all-- JOIN YOUR LOCAL FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY It's worth it!!!
