Laraine, Enumerators could be very unkind. If she WAS a prostitute (and I'm not saying she was) the enumerator was being fairly kind to her, as I've seen some use much worse words to describe a prostitute, so professional doesn't sound too bad. Kath. x

Condition of marriage is 'unmarried'. Don't wish to be unkind but I can only think of one profession where you wouldn't need another word after it.....prostitute. Kath. x

This must be her: Amelia Ballin abt 1848 Islington Lodger St Pancras London Charles W Ballin abt 1870 St Pancras Son St Pancras London Hellen Shimer abt 1859 Lambeth Servant St Pancras London I'll take a look at the image.

I can find no Amelia Bull* in St pancras. Please can you just tell us how her name appears in the census and her birthyear? RG10 just means 1871 and 211 is only a piece number - it will cover a huge area. We need the folio and page numbers too. nell

Only two Amelia Bullins in 1871 census index, neither look like yours. nell

can you help I have a 1871 cencus for the name Amelia BULLIN age 23, it also shows her son Charles W BULLIN 1 years old living at 23 Sussex Street, St Pancras, I can not read what it says under the condition heading, and it also says under occupation ' Proffessional', Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
