Thanks to Sarah for posting up her query about it, or I wouldn't have known. They have added various databases such as Phillimore's Parish Records, and it appears to have the GRO overseas indexes for FREE! Or at least some of them. Please add to this thread if you figure anything out about what is there! Kate.

... and especially if you can crack how to get into the overseas indexes. I keep clicking on things and just getting a list of which indexes are available. Perhaps it is like when they first 'launched' their site all over again. Kate.

I just realised that I am going to have to log on to be allowed to search the 'free' indexes. But every time I try to log on I just get 'Application Unavailable', so I am giving up for now. Definitely reminds me of when they first launched their site. But when it is working it should be great to have the overseas indexes available free. Kate.

kate, Just found my Great grandfather listed in army deaths for 1918. He only showed up on the surname search with all the other BEVAN entries. If I added his forename (Hiram) I got no results. Strange. Pete

Right, well only 24 couties have any records at all, and I totted up the first three couties on the list, and they only have around 100 parishes between them. There are only two parishes in Yorkshire covered (It won't let you copy and paste, otherwise I would have posted the lists). You can search by name and parish or name any county and restrict the years and things like that, but I don't see a facility for Soundex, though you may be about to leave of the end of a name, like Park% for Parker or Parkinson (note on FR you use the % and not the *). So, useful if they have what you are looking for!! Merry

Well you learn something new every day. Thanks for your comment Merry - didn´t know the % sign was used for a wildcard search on FR.

I have just been looking through the overseas indexes, and I am very impressed indeed. The pages load really quickly, don't they? And I didn't buy any credits, just logged in. Now if only it had been working earlier on, I could have spent the afternoon looking through them! As it is, I have to go and get the kids now... Kate.
