Hi all, Is it possible to find details on babies deaths (possibly stillborn) between 1916 and 1920? I know parent and other sibling details, just not where to go for the information (or, if I actually can) As always, Thanks in advance. Babs |

Still births weren't registered until the 1920's, and even then are on a separate, closed, register so you cannot generally get details. Any baby that was born live, even if it lived for just for a few minutes, should have been registered in the normal way, so there should be both a birth and a death listed on the BMD index. Of course, sometimes this didn't happen, especially in the early days of registration. Richard |

If the baby was stillborn, then at the date you give there won't be any records to find. If the baby lived for even a short time, you should find the birth and death registered in the normal indexes - you may have to look at the end of the alphabetical list in the index for the surname as the baby might not have been named and could just be under 'male' or 'female'. barbara, do you know the babies name. i have found 2 infant deaths and one stillborn with help from the local cemetery. one grave they found had 3 children aged 2 years, 6 hours and stillborn . they new it was still born because it hadnt been registered and it was buried in another coffin with someone else. love linda x x |
