Jeanette & Co (Sorry didnt take a note of names) Realised now what i was doing wrong, instead of deleting the word mother in the details box i was trying to use the delete key, poor bloke ended up with 3 wives with all the same name. Unfortunately the penny didnt drop till i had lost my temper and deleted 70 rellies, right back to my grandparents. in 1876 - from 1703. Some time ago i sat and printed out hundreds of Family Group Records and all the details i had, and have since found, i write on them. So guess what i have been doing since i first put my message up.!! Putting them all back again on my tree. I have learnt my lesson - never put a Father down with children without a Mothers name, even if it says Unknown its better than leaving it blank Thanks everyone for your help Mo |

You might want to consider keeping the master copy of your tree on you PC at home, using proper family tree software such as FTM. You then upload a file to GR periodically. I t needn't cost a lot either. FTM 2005 is now available fro under £10, or try the PAF program, free from the IGI site. |

It is confusing, but if you click on 'Add partner' the system thinks you are trying to add a second partner other than 'Mother'. I still sometimes get caught out! |

Tracy Thanks for answering me, was beginning to think no-one was out there!! What has happened is, i have had the the names of the males in the family on my tree, together with the children, just found out the names of the wives, trying to put them on the tree but it wont let me, i have deleted where it says mother, over and over again, then clicked on the male, then partner, entered all the details of the wife, but i still end up back where i started. This is going back from 1850's to the early 1700's, does it mean i need to deleted the children, although i have ever tried that and it comes up with the normal messages about cant delete if there are siblings etc. Mo |

If the male has children, GR will always add a female to the tree. Children can't be born without 2 parents. You should be able to edit the one that says (mother) to add in the name of the female. |

I am going spare here trying to enter people on my tree, can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong. I have a male, enter his name - OK, then try to enter partner, when it comes up on the tree, besides the males name is (mother) in the box (where the wife/.partner should be), then a double line and half way across the page is the partners name, i have deleted it time after time, and tried again, but it still comes back the same Mo |
