I have had this happen. I had entered what I THOUGHT might be the brides name, and it was not. They advised me to apply again and give only the grooms name and all the other information, which was correct. I was a bit annoyed with myself, but it all worked ou. Deanna X |

Karen....you know you said you had seen a marriage to a Sarah Head.....well....if this is your family in 1871....they have a Head staying with them....which seems a bit of a co-incidence!! 1871: Caleb Brown abt 1849 Bham, Warwickshire, England Boarder Birmingham Warwickshire >>>>Ada Head abt 1867 Redditch, Worcestershire, England Visitor Birmingham Warwickshire Alfred Meredith abt 1845 Dewchurch, Warwickshire, England Head Birmingham Warwickshire Ellen Meredith abt 1869 Hereford; Ledbury Daughter Birmingham Warwickshire Sarah Meredith abt 1845 Frome, Warwickshire, England Wife Birmingham Warwickshire Fany Price abt 1854 Hereford; Ledbury Boarder Birmingham Warwickshire I know she is only a visitor, but that might be because they were not sure what sort of relation she was to Alfred!! ................................. Update:.........Oh, it looks like Ada MAY have been an illegitimate dau of Sarah Head??? (later Mrs Meredith???) IGI: ADA JANE HEAD Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 14 MAY 1867 Redditch, Worcester, England -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Mother: SARAH HEAD -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. I've just had something similar, and they were really helpful. I applied for a birth certificate with the checking point that the father must have the Christian names William Wood. They sent me an e-mail saying that they weren't issuing the certificate, and refunding £4, because those weren't the Christian names of the father. I replied to their message, saying that if by any chance the father's name was William AND the mother was Mary or Jane, I still wanted the certificate, and asked if it was possible to check. I thought they'd tell me I had to make a new application from scratch with those checking points, but no - they very kindly checked, and e-mailed back to say that none of those names matched. It's a pity, because I was convinced I had the right names, but at least I only wasted £3. They've also been exceptionally helpful in the past - when I made my first online application their system wouldn't accept my credit card, and they phoned me 3 times - in Italy - to sort it out. |

Update: GRO sent me a refund and a letter to say sarahs fathers name wasnt john griffiths, like i thought it was. I sent for this marriage cert as i couldnt find her first marriage to Alfred Meredith. Ive searched looking for sarah griffiths and alfred meredith and the other way round, i did find a marriage in Hereford for Alfred meredith and a Sarah Head 1868 jan-mar hereford 6a 675 so maybe she wasnt a griffiths, i did ring GRO and they suggested if i wanted the marriage cert to just put Archers details down and leave the rest blank |

Karen, it could be a problem with their film they will be using to try and give you the copy cert. Sit tight and see what they say......... Merry |

I have received a message too. I asked them to check some details on the cert I apllied for and they did not tie in with the details I gave them so they are not sending me the cert, charging me for a search and refunding part of the cost. |
