Hello All, A marriage lookup in the OXON marr index found: 03 FEB 1809 George HUNT of Didcot to Rebecca PAIN at Beckley. In the IGI I found 03 FEB 1809 George TURNER To Rebecca PAYNE Becklay. Any thoughts???? Gillian

Hi Gillian I can imagine someone seeing Pain and writing Payne but I can't see how Hunt would look or sound like Turner. You need to see the original entry. Heather

Hi Gillian, Agree with Heather - as both your sources are transcriptions, either one of them could be wrong, or even both. (Was the IGI a parish extraction, or a private submission?) You need to look at original source. Jay

Maybe one was extracted from the Parish Register and the other from the Bishops Transcripts?? Merry

Thanks for all your replies. GR is playing up & it has taken me ages to open them!! At last I can update my message. On the IGI entry is says: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date. I agree, I will have to look at the original entry in the PRs. Gillian
