Do you think that this outfit would have any record of marriages and children of soldiers while they were ''on duty'', even if the event took place in another country? Unsure where he was married, but first three children were born 1803 Canada, 1805/6 Gibraltar and 1810 Ireland. Trying to find his wife's maiden name. |

Doubt it Im afraid. Ive got my hubbys GGFx2 army record and no pension of wife or kids. But your chap sounds really interesting - is it worth trying to find his record at Kew? |

Heather, I already have a copy of his enlistment record, as it were. He wasn't a soldier, but a musician. I have been unable to find the birth here in Canada, or in the Overseas GRO for Gibraltar. Found the christening in Ireland - so we have a first name for the mother. But she died by 1816, when John remarried and had a further 4 boys and maybe a girl who died in infancy. I will try Kew and see what kind of records they have. Thanks. |

Well I think a soldier first, musician second as they say in the army! He sounds so interesting - I do hope you turn something up - is it worth you emailing the Chelsea Hospital - google for their museum site - something may be in their records? |

I've just spent the last hour going round and round in circles on the National Archives site. Only mention of my guy is the record that I already have a copy of, complete with spelling error of surname. Why do they have to make things so complicated? What would Kew have that the NA don't? I know there is no possibility of me ever getting there, but it would be nice to know if they have info that could help. |
