Were the town postmen recorded in the Gazette's when they were appointed their role? You may find a record for the person in the London Gazette? Can't remember if I have seen this before. Claire

Oh the staff are absolutely brilliant, the girl who emailed me went way beyond the call of duty. Very impressed.

Sorry, Dawnie.....have just noticed that you said you can't get to London, so my last message wasn't terribly helpful! Unfortunately, I don't get to London that much myself or I'd do a look-up for you. Perhaps you could see if anyone else on the Boards is heading that way! Best of luck with your search. Natalie

I visited the Consignia Heritage Centre (just behind Mount Pleasant Post Office HQ) in London. The staff were amazingly helpful, and I got my ancestor's employment record for the price of the photocopying (nowhere near £30). I seem to remember walking from there to either the London Metropolitan Archive or the Family Records Centre. Definitely worth a visit! Natalie

If you email them they are really helpful. They have recently started doing look up but want £30 for the records which seems a bit steep to me.
