Back to your original question - I can't think of any way in which his name would be on a war memorial as he didn't die in the relevant war - ie WW1. He won't be on CWGC as he didn't die within the relevant period - ie up to 1921. Sorry to sound negative but this will save you going up the wrong path. Regards Keith |

Lindy One possible way forward is to look at the Medal Cards held by the National Archives at Kew. The index is available online. I've chceked it and there lots of Robert Barlows. It will help if he has another forename. Who has his medals? They would provide further information. To access the medal cards: http://www*nationalarchives*gov*uk/documentsonline/medals*asp (Replace the stars with stops) Denis. |

Thank you for pointing that out Dennis. I stand corrected. Vanessa |

As regards WW1 CWGC commemorates those who died during the war and have a known grave. Those who died but have no known grave are commemorated by name on one of the various CWGC memorials. In the circumstances it appears your relative would not be listed on the CWGC site. If a pension was not being paid then it is difficult to see who would have taken on responsibility for placing the name on a non CWGC memorial. Denis. |

Hi Liny. Have you had a look on the commonwealth war graves commission site? I found my granddads name and regiment on the roll of honour. It may be worth a try. Vanessa |

hi, is there a way to find out if someones name is on a war memorial.? my grandad robert barlow born c1893 served in the first world war - dont know what regiment or where he served. he didnt die in the war but died c1940 with affects of the mustard gas used in the first world war. someone in the family said his name would still be on a memorial - perhaps the cenotaph in london ? his wife wouldnt travel to london to claim a pension when he died because she was frightened of the bombing in 1940 . any ideas how i can find out his regiment or any other details ? he died in leigh lancashire aged aprox 47. thanks linda |
