Hi I have just got my ggrandads birth certificate through and I am a little puzzled. His birthday was the 26th March but on his birth cert its the 2nd April, would his mother have lied about this?

They did lie sometimes if they were late getting to the records office to record the birth?

Thats what I was hoping you would say , as there is 45 days between the given DOB and the date of registration which is the 17th May. Oops got that wrong its the 7th of May so thats 35 days

It's exactly a week out. The informant may have answered the question not as '26th March' but 'last Monday' - not lying, but spreading a little confusion.

Or, okay, they may have lied!

Yes she could have. Of course it could be the wrong cert, but everything else about it is right.

My friend's father's birth certificate shows his birth in 1918 in April whereas it was 31st March. She was told that her grandparents were late registering him so gave a later date of birth.
