The 1861 census shows three Brine children in the workhouse, possibly siblings. There are no adult Brines in the workhouse. The listing as ´pauper wife´ is an error in the transcription. Edwin Brine abt 1853 Sherborne, Dorset, England Pauper Wife Sherborne Dorset John Brine abt 1857 Sherborne, Dorset, England Pauper Wife Sherborne Dorset Robert Brine abt 1855 Sherborne, Dorset, England Pauper Wife Sherborne Dorset In the 1871 census you have found Robert with a birth date of 1856. It is possible that these are the same person. Bear in mind that if he had been left in the workhouse his age might not have been known. Equally if he had been bought up in the workhouse he could have been equally confused about his correct age. You may just find that later on in life he wanted to be younger than he really was - so stated his date of birth as 1860 ! Not a lot of help really - but just my thoughts !
