Thanks Merry, When referring to the spouses (spice?) of my husband's siblings I do usually use their names, but just wondered what they were technically! Over the next Bank Holiday one of my sisters and I are due to meet up with a new, er, bending the rules a bit, 'sister in law'. She was adopted as a 10 day old and has traced her older(birth family) brothers, one of whom married my younger sister 30+ years ago. Thus she has now found two brothers, an (ex) sister-in law, two nieces, and umpteen g nieces and g nephews - in Australia. ! Sadly, her mum, my sister's m-i-l, died several years ago. No-one had any idea at all of her existence - she was a bolt from the blue. for them all. Her mum and both my sisters and our mum, corresponded and were good friends - they knew each other very well - but no mention was ever made re an adopted daughter. It will be nice to meet her - my ex brother-in-law's sister! Rosi |

''My sister's husband is my brother-in-law, fine,'' Yes....correct!! ''similarly my husband's brother's wife is my sister in law.'' well, I would say she is the wife of your brother-in-law, but yes, that is still your sister-in-law (but I'm not sure about technically?)! ''What about the sister of my sister's husband?'' Your sisters husband is your bro-in-law and his sister is just his sister! ''Or the sister of my brother's wife?'' As above..... ''Are they my sisters-in-law too?. To further complicate things, my siblings are all half siblings of one sort or another, and some of the spouses are now exes!'' I don't think that matters (being halfs)....but if the marriage has been disolved then they are going to be EX....in laws!! Merry |

My sister's husband is my brother-in-law, fine, similarly my husband's brother's wife is my sister in law. What about the sister of my sister's husband? Or the sister of my brother's wife? Are they my sisters-in-law too?. To further complicate things, my siblings are all half siblings of one sort or another, and some of the spouses are now exes! Doh! Rosi |
