Check here to see if there's a local BMD office online for the area you're interested in: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php?form_action=local They're very good, and have much more recent records than FreeBMD. They also match marriage partners. I use Staffordshire and West Midlands a lot, and I hear that Lancashire is good, too. Unfortunately the coverage is still patchy, because the indexes ar still being transcribed. Look at the coverage page to see which areas are covered.

If you want to know general coverage on freebmd, use this link: http://www.freebmd.org.uk/progress.shtml and click on births, marriages or deaths. To check that a certain page has been transcribed, it's sometimes helpful (if your surname is uncommon) to plug in a popular surname often found on the same page.

they stop after about 1910 its best to go here ancestry BMD 1837-1983 http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Remove brackets its free to search and free to regester Jeanette

If you can give the surname and mum's surname I'll take a look on Family Relatives for you.....fully indexed for the time period you mention! The rough area would be good too Merry (I'll do it as long as it's not Smith and Jones!)

Lindy FreeBMD only goes upto about 1910-1912 and a few after this date very hit & miss. Your best bet would be to search the beta records on Ancestry. Georgina.

Very few on that site after about 1912. Have you tried searching on Ancestry, which I believe is still free to search for B,M or D.
