Is it possible to find out where someone actually worked? For example I have on 1881 census a John Stafford - Bootmaker, can I find out if he had a shop etc. He is living in London Middlesex. Karen |

If you google historical directories -you could see if he is in one of those. |

First look at the census image and see if it says something like 'employer' or 'on own account' - this may mean he had premises. If not, then he is likely an employee and its not likely you will find him. |
