I have been searching for information on ROBERT QUAYLE, born 10 December 1854 in Maughold, Ramsey, Isle of Man. I have searched Ancestory.Com, Family search, family history, I have tried Manx Genealogy, but all I keep getting are false leads of similar persons, one lead was a Robert Quayle on Census 1891 - Onchan-Douglas- Isle of Man Ecclas District St Barnabus Page 2 RG12/4688. which turned up wrong parents. Another one was a Whitehaven Cumberland Census, Parish-Egremont, Ecclas Parish St Michael, district Moor Row, Bigrigg, Scalegill, RG13/4896. A Robert Quayle again, different wife and children, but this one is aged 46yrs, and I cant find marriages for either of them, or what parents they had. The proper parent of Robert is Phiilip Quayle and Mary Corkill both born about 1814 of Maughold Isle of Man. I dont know what I am missing but I must be going wrong somewhere, can anyone help me.

Sorry, I'm probably being a bit dim, but are you saying you are trying to trace him forwards through his life and can find nothing after this 1861 census? Merry

Is Robert your ancestor, or is he some other relative? Because if he is your ancestor then presumably you have some info like when and where he married, but if he is some other relative and you are trying to find out what happened to him, it could be that he emigrated to anywhere, really. Kate.

KATE RIMMER.Robert was the brother of my ancestor James Quayle,c1840. but why cant I find him on the 1871 census at 17yrs surely he would not have emigrated at that age.

He could have emigrated by then, sure, or as Merry says, gone to sea. Or died somewhere other than the IOM, assuming you have gone through the IOM death records? Kate.

So, are you saying the Robert Quayle who went to Cumberland and married Mary could still be ''the one'' but you can't find his marriage, to match up his father's name? With regard to the Q1 1882 marriage for Robert Quayle in Ulverston district, which I posted further up................... I have now traced the bride...... Marriages Mar 1882 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kneale Mary Ann Ulverston 8e 918 Her page number has been mis-transcribed. It is actually 948 on the GRO index. There are several Mary Ann Kneales on the IoM who this could be (born around 1850).....none are in Lancashire in 1881, but maybe Robert was in the process of getting accomodation and work, before she came over to get married? Normally I would say the fact they have a son, Philip, is significant, but as there are lots of Philip Quayles on the IoM I guess this is nothing to go by! Merry
