How do I work out which lilian May Bassett is my Gt Gt Grandmother? I have her Marriage Certificate dated 03/07/1915 and she is 23 which would put her dob as 1892. I have the following information, 1891 census Name: Lilian May Bassett Age: 1 Estimated birth year: abt 1890 Relation: Daughter Gender: Female Where Born: Tunbridge Wells, Kent Civil parish: Tunbridge Ecclesiastical parish: St James Town: Tunbridge Wells County/Island: Kent Address looks like 61 Camden Road Source information: RG12/679 Folio: 61 Page: 2&3 rest of family Albert William Bassett (age looks like 22, but not clear) tailor Harriett Barrett 27 Ada Elizabeth Barrett daur age 2 Lilian May Bassett Year of Registration: 1890 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Tonbridge County: Kent, Sussex Volume: 2a Page: 699 But on the Marraige certificate is says her Fathers name is William James Bassett!! I have also found another Lilian Bassett on the 1901 Census age 8 in St Mary's Riverhead. I'm not sure where the second place is. should I try and get both Birth Certificates but then I still will not be any rhe wiser. Arrgh How do know for Sure? Barbara |

Lilian May Bassett married George Vallins 03/07/1915 In Orpington she was living at Lone Barn Farm at the time. Fathers name was Wiliam James Bassett and a Labourer. She had my Nan Ada Ellen Vallins on 15/07/1915 just 12 days later. She also had a Son Called Harry Bassett about 5 years earlier and I have no record of him. My Mum remembers him though. Thanks Barbara |

Hi Barbara Sorry have just reread your original message (I hate the way GR cruches it all up), anyway my advice would be to ignore the census (for the moment) and try and find a Birth Record so you can order a Cert to match the Marriage cert you have. Looking at the BMD there would appear to be a number of possibles in and around 1892. How is your geography? Do any of these places ring true to you ? Lilian May Bassett 1890 Jan-Feb-Mar Tonbridge Kent, Sussex Lilian May Bassett 1893 Jan-Feb-Mar Gravesend (1837-1941) Kent Lily May Bassett 1892 Oct-Nov-Dec Dartford Kent HTH ... Paul |

Thank you the Tonbridge one looks promising. Do you know how would I go about ordering the Birth Certificate from the local office as opposed from online. Barbara |
