I have the marriage cert of my grt grandfather George Samuel Johnson married Clara Lile on 9th June 1889 at st andrews Bordesley Birmingham Warwickshire both aged 21 at time of marriage. His father is William Johnson proffession mechanic, but i can only find them on one census 1871 and im not even sure if this is them george is listed as being 16months on that census, i have no idea of the mothers name or any siblings etc . I was wondering if anyone could find anything out for me as i might just be having a BLONDE week. The address on marriage cert is 54 Watery Lane. Hopefully Janet. |

Hi Janet Do you have a little more detail? Have found a Samuel and Clara Johnson living on Aston Road, he is an engine driver and they have a son Joseph, just a shot in the dark as really it would help if you could post where they were born if poss so have just quickly looked for Clara and there are only 2 ion Warwickshire and the other is married to a John. Just wondered if he went by Samuel instead Elaine |

Yes he was known as Samuel to all the family he was my mothers grandfather and she knew him as grandada samuel, but with him listing George Samuel on Wedd cert, he must have been christened george....the census of 1871 lists william as coming from lancashire . i dont feel i have the right one cos all my family come from birmingham area for generations past ...well so mother tells me anyway.....I am not being much help really am I ...Sorry |

This is the only George Samuel Johnson birth I can find in Birmingham at around the right time:- George Samuel Johnson March qtr. 1869, Birmingham 6d, 205 I know this would mean he wasn't 21 when he married but he could have lied as lots of people did. Since you have his father's name, you could order the birth certificate and give his father's name as a checking point, so they wouldn't issue the certificate if the father's name was something else. This would then give you his mother's name, to make it easier to find them on the census. Kath. x |
