Hello all. I am wondering if i, a mother who had her daughter adopted in 1968 can request the adoption files? I am not sure how things stand with the law on this. I know where the records are now kept but before i e-mail anyone i need to know the law. Any advice would be great. Thanks Vanessa

Hi Vanessa, This is the official GRO web page on the subject, and it explains it pretty well: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/adoptions/accesstoadoptionrecordsforbirthrelatives/ Liz x

Hi Vaneesa, Although I was never a member if you go onto the Norcap home page, you will get a lot of information regarding rules and recent legislation, for instance although the law has now changed t to enable the SS to assist family members try and trace adoptees and vice versa, according to the Adoption and Childrens act of 2002 the adoptess can register their right tp issue a 'no contact' request with their records. I hope this is not true in your situation, but not all records will be helpd by SS and they may have to request some info from the courts, but what info you may be given could be limited. Good Luck ! Sorry for replying to your message rather late sheila. Had to do the grannie bit with the little ones! Still in one piece now, i think. I am only after info that my daughter is still alive and well. I hope she does want contact as i do but i will respect her choice what ever it is. I will read every site that has been passed to me with care. Thank you all again for you advice and responses. Vanessa
