Roger Rycroft appears as a newlywed in the 1871 census and as the head of a growing family in the 1881 census. I've also got a registration reference for his marriage to Sarah Anne Jones. Come the 1891 census, however, his children are living with their Maternal grandparents and there's no sign of Roger, or his wife, in the BDM deaths between 1881 and 1891 And I can't find Roger before the 1871 census, or any reference to his birth in the BDM Anybody any ideas where I go from here? Sorry - worth a try - but can´t see anything. You will need to get the marriage certificate.

Thanks for the replies, everybody! Ken: The marriage certificate is on the long list of certificates I have yet to obtain, but your comment has just pushed it up the queue! Elaine: Yes, those are the census details that I have for 1871 and 1881 Marie: Florence does, indeed, appear to go into service, I have notes on her 1901 position somewhere, as well. Sadly, she died unmarried in 1907. Thank you for finding the two death references! I thought that I'd checked for the misspelling of the surname, but I must have missed both of them! Two more certificates to add to the list of those to get... cheers! Gordon
