Hi Lyn This name has me puzzled, I'm trying to think what it might be if spoken with an Irish accent. I even thought of it beginnning Weis..... I think you are on the right track getting the birth cert though. Good luck with it. Heather

Thank you to all so much that has given me more hope and I will now go on Ancestry and check out all the details for WESENERS. Absolutely BRILLIANT :) I so wish I had found this area of Genes a lot sooner than I did. Hope you had a good nights sleep those of you that stayed up so late. Lyn x x

I think it really is Wiseness - again the image clearly says that for the mother. Time for bed I think! Anne

OOOH well done Heather I didn't spot that one! The image clearly says Wiseness - bad mistranscription. Anne

It certainly seems to be a rare name! I can't see Mary Ann Wiseness as any likely mistranscription on the 1891 census. It is possible I suppose that they were back in Ireland - even visiting family - at the time of the census? Anne

Not really sure what you are asking, Lynda. You seem to be going in the right direction by ordering Mary Ann Wiseness' birth certificate. Hopefully this will tell you if her father was Henry. I wouldn't worry too much about the different spellings. It was quite likely they could not write and did not notice how the name Wiseness was written. Try saying it with a Scouse accent, or an Irish one! Anne

Evenin' all :) What a fab place this is, never before used by me but will be in future! I have only recently discovered how friendly you lot are and how very helpful too. Soooooo. I wonder if anybody can help me with my little problem? Here goes. 1881 Census RG11/3599 Folio 35 p64 Whitty William Head b 1840 Ireland Pensioner ' Catherine Sis b 1853 Ireland ' Walter Bro b 1854 Ireland Dock Labourer ' Mary Anne Mother b 1800 Ireland Wiseness Mary Anne Sis b 1849 Ireland Married ' John Neph b 1872 Liverpool Lancs Scholar ' Mary Anne Niece b 1873 Liverpool Lancs Scholar Ok, niece Mary Anne is my GGrandmother. These are the only references to that name in the whole of the census records. Thre is a marriage record for 1871 Sept Quarter West Derby 8b p269 of a Mary Anne Whitty to a Henry WAISNIS. There is mention of a son Henry Wiseness born 1878 and died 1880 ref Lancs Liverpool 8b p30. Their names are all spelt as Wiseness in the birth indexes but I cannot find any other information whatsoever about the family. So, where do I go next? I have ordered the birth cert for Mary Anne b 1872 and I am hoping that will give me some pointers. If that confirms everything I will prob then order Mary Anne's and Henry's wedding cert. Mary Anne b 1849 is registered in death index 1910 vol 8b p 269. If anybody has any ideas they will be gratefully received. Looking forward (hopefully) to hearing from you. :) Lyn x
