Hi, I've been told by one of my contacts that my great great uncle killed his wife and then killed himself !! I think I've found his wifes death but can't find his death. I've searched Ancestry, 1837 online from 1907-1919 and Durham records online. Details are ... Matthew Youll born 1876 at Thornley Co. Durham. Married 1903 to Hannah Mary Welch at Thornley. This is the last record I can find for Matthew. There is a Hannah M Youll on 1837 died third 1/4 of 1917 atThornley but no signs of Matthews death in the next two years. The other clue I have is that he was a publican at The Queens Head Thornley. His mother had the pub on the 1901 census and Matthew was a miner so I'm guessing that his mother died and he took the pub over. Any takers for this murder mystery?? Maureen |

Maureen the first thing I would do is send for her death certificate & see if she really was murdered. Georgina. |

Hiya Suzanne, Is there an age for Matthew on the record you found ? I've just realised that I'm paying for Ancestry and I've been paying for 1837 at 10p per view ! What an idiot I am ! However I still can't find Matthews death. I've now searched up to end of 1923. I'm starting to wonder if I've been misinformed. Thank you for taking time to try and help me. Maureen |

Sticky Fingers and Georgina, Thanks for your replys. I will have to find out which newspapers covered that area at that time. The county boundrys have changed so much in the last years. I think it's an idea to get Hannah's death cert but I'm wondering if it will actually say that she was murdered. Maureen |

Maureen If it was a sudden or suspicious death (murder, suicide etc) there will have been an inquest. The death certificate will give date of inquest and findings - these were reported in the local papers and are usually quite detailed, the archives of the local paper will also have other reports on the death besides just the inquest report.
