I have this on the records board as well, but think that this might be the better board for it! on a memorial brooch that I have it gives the lady's name, and under neath that...............Ob June 30th 1841,aged 56 years. would Ob mean obituary?, and is it likely that the date, is the date of death? or her birthday? a puzzled Bob

Ob is short for the Latin for death (which is where obituary comes from). As it gives a date and states her age I guess this is the date she died and the brooch is a commemorative one. I know that mourning rings were fashionable at one time and presumably brooches also. nell

yes, Helen it appears to have some woven hair, in the front panel, surrounded by what appear to be small pearls and around that, is '' In Memory of'' in gold lettering on black enamel......... Bob

The hair will be hers...... I have enough memorial hair in this house to make myself a wig from it! Can't say I fancy the idea though.......... Merry
