Teresa I have found this as well! I have 4 or 5 Mary Anns in one branch of the family and they seem to alternate between Mary or Ann in the census which is so frustrating. One of them was Mary on birth cert but Ann on death cert. I had to send for all her childrens certs to check she was the same person cos it really threw me! Carole xx |

I have found my family in 51 census and the father is called John which is correct. Now for the interesting bit...... they have 2 sons called John. They did have a son John but his age doesnt tally with these 2. Their son Joseph would be the same age as the eldest John and the youngest the same age as my ggrandad Lazarus. Looking at later census Lazarus does use the name John. The real John is nowhere to be found unless he died young of course. Im sure this is my family as the girls all have the right names and ages and places of birth are all correct. I just wondered if it was commonplace to call all the men in the family the same name as their father even though that was not their name! It must have been confusing for them as well. Carole |
