Hello all Just having a wonder about the national burial index you can buy on cd. Has anyone on here got it, is it worth the money? I am considering investing as these often come up on ebay a bit cheaper than buying them from other sources. Thanks Sarah

I have NBI 2. I have NOT yet found one burial that I have looked for ... either for myself or for anyone else. I was offering lookups last year ..... but after months of failing to find any results, I gave up. There are Millions of burials listed ..... but not for the people who are looking ! It's far from complete, and never will be. Some Parishes have refused to let the records be transcribed ... :-( Elaine ;-)

Would agree with Elaine (DD) Haven´t managed to find anyone that relates to my ancestors, although have found a few for people that have requested lookups.

Hi Sarah, I asked the same question a few weeks ago. Have a look at the areas & numbers listed - I'm looking primarily at Devon & Norfolk - Devon's only got about 5000 burials on the CD & Norfolk's better with 132000 (from memory) but the villages I'm looking at aren't on it. If you're lucky enough to find your places on there then maybe it's worth the £45, I decided it wasn't worth it for me. Good luck! Sarah :-)

Thanks for the input - glad I posted before I decided to purchase, looks like I probably wont bother. I'm interested in areas of cheshire and Livepool, but the cheshire council website has already come up with some links.

No it only lists burials in church grave yards, which are nearly all closed now. Like all they others I have not yet found any I need.

I usually have a fiver on http://www.familyhistoryonline.net They have a lot of the NBI transcribed and you can look up entries for a few pence each. Your credits last about six months I think. You can search for free by county to see what databases they have to see if it's worth spending any money. Who and when are you looking for and I'll see if they have anything?

You can see exactly what's on the NBI on http://www.ffhs.org.uk/General/Projects/NBIcounties.htm. Just click on the county and you get parish by parish details It depends on the county - my interests are Beds and Hunts and it's absolutely invaluable. Well worth the rather pricy £45 that I paid. But for others it's a dead loss.
