OK ..... My success rate on the occasions I have asked for assistance here has been 100%. Unfortunately I suspect that the percentage rate will drop dramatically with this request ! Have been absolutely and frustratingly stuck for the last 18 months on the following ..... Thomas Goldsmith born abt 1785 in Bow ( Middlesex ) He married a Charlotte Susannah Goodman on 27 Feb 1817 in St Mary's , Newington , Surrey. He was shown as a 32 year old widower at the time. My insurmountable problem is twofold .... Who was his first wife and Who were his parents. At a total dead end on this one .... if anyone has access to any weird and wonderful old records that might assist , I would be forever grateful. Regards Mike |

Thomas' parents will be in the baptism register for Bow, which is probably at the London metropolitan archives. nell |

Hi again Paul Unfortunately the New Zealand connection appears to have been a rather big mistake ... was in touch with them about a year ago and they have taken one or two giant leaps of faith which dont pan out !!! They have all the right Goldsmiths from the Newington area but have added one or two others that dont belong. In the end , the NZ contact said that their had been a bit of a 'cock-up' !! Thanks anyway Mike |

:-( But most folk at that time had children over a wide span - maybe you can find likely sibling baptisms pre and post the missing years? nell |

Which parish is he of on his marriage? If he is of the same parish as the wife there may be settlement papers as he wasn't born there. It would be unusual for both parish records and Bishop's Transcripts to be missing, have you looked for BTs? Gwynne |

Gwynne Thanks ... I didn't know about Bishop's transcripts. Now all I need to do is find out where they would be for the parish of Bow . Middlesex for 1785. Thanks again for your help Regards Mike |
