I rang 90 year old hubbys auntie - asked her who was her Irish?uncle that had died on Titantic as a young man working in engine room. She said, 'oh its a long time - I cant remember, but he was mothers side'. Now, I look at their mothers name - Gordon - I go to engine room trimmer dead and woo hoo, J Gordon!! My mother in law had told me about this long ago, before I was really into family history. I knew he was a trimmer and Im sure she said Irish - her grandmother/mother were Irish. |

No, that time, I went through the list trying to remember the name she gave me - ridiculous that I hadnt thought her mums name would be her uncles name! But I assumed it was a looser connection. (Jim Elliot was m-I-l's neighbour who I used to ring when I couldnt contact her- thats why it stuck in my head - doh!) And you remember I said that there was a Lord on there with same surname and when I looked this up originally - what 12 years ago? I got excited because I thought perhaps hubbys side were gentry! Well I have now just checked again and yes, there is a Lord called Gordon on there. Oh, I am pleased I remembered. How stupid I didnt even think to look for a Gordon. |
