Being jealous of everyone on the interesting relatives thread I decided to give my tree another look over. I found a relative who was a prisoner in 1901. To me that is interesting, but I would like to make it more interesting by finding out why he was in there. Is there any way I could do this. |

You may be able to find some information in old newspapers. The Times is available online. I suppose you needed to be really bad to get a mention though. Ppete |

Hi Pete I have just been on timesonline but it only seems to give information about recent events. Have I gone on the wrong site? Going to bed soon so I will check on here tomorrow. |

You can access the Times online archive by joining the virtual library on Bedfordshire libraries site. You can also find out about your ancestor by getting the prison register, which should be in the relevant county records office. Unless he committed a major crime, chances are it will only have been reported in a local paper, though where he committed the crime might not be where he is imprisoned! nell |
