Hi Dennis, At home we have Wifi to connect my laptop to my husband's desktop computer. I can access files on his desktop and also use his printer. It's all cordless so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house. Gillian |

Hi Dennis, We have adsl/broadband too! I don't see what your problem is? My husband has a router connected to his desktop & I can connect to the internet from from my laptop by using the wireless connection. I am also networked to his computer thro' the wireless connection as well, which allows me to consult files on his desktop and also use his printer. Gillian |

Try this site, it tells you all the different options and how to do it. http://computer.howstuffworks*com/home-network.htm Personally I don't think you can beat a router, any PC on the network can access the internet when the master PC which is connected to the modem is turned off Ron www.genealogyprinters*com |

I agree with Ron - a router is the way to go, and very cheap these days too. The internet connects directly to the router, and this then takes care of internet services to all the PC's on the network. Routers usually come with a built-in firewall too. Get one with wireless capability - they're great for laptops, as you can remain connected anywhere in the house. I don't think that you'll be able to use a scanner over the network though - they usually only work from the PC to which they're connected. Printers should be no problem though - either connect directly to the router or you can ''share'' a printer that is connected to one PC so that it can be used by the rest of the network. Richard |
