I have just been searching for a relative and found her on the 1891c in the Liverpool workhouse as an inmate. Does inmate mean she has done something wrong or that she just might not have anywhere to live? Is there anyway I could find out?

Workhouses were used as hospital's for the poor so she could be Ill, or she could be an orphan or just fallen on hard times. Georgina.

Inmate just means she is living there - She could have fallen upon hard times, or been widdowed etc. Also, the workhouses often doubled as hospitals, so she could have been ill ?? Dea x
